This is a project that tries to interpret and present a historical area in the old town of Beijing from a new perspective.
Each community has its own rhythm that created by the overall atmosphere and connections between individual elements in it. By choosing different elements in streets and translating them into musical notes under certain rules, people can feel the street with ears.

This area has existed for more than 300 years. Based on a in 1750, the grid of streets almost remain the same as today. These narrow streets in the old town were called "hutong" and the residents have lived here generation after generation. These areas have developed their own culture and attract large amount of visitors every year.
The traditional buildings and the narrow streets have created special experiences for people living here as well as those visiting: it can be the smell come out of someone's kitchen, a dog barking in next door, or a bike ringing behind you.

The elements selected are stable factors. Once a tune was created, it will be embedded into a QR code which will be put up on the walls along the street. Visitors can scan the code with their phone and listen. These melodies present the appearance of the streets and create a whole new experience when mixing with other sounds in the environment.
